‘I Was Born for This’: Kunle Afod Says He Would Choose Acting Over Marriage

Nollywood actor and filmmaker Kunle Afod has stirred reactions after declaring that his passion for acting outweighs his commitment to marriage, insisting that he would rather sacrifice a relationship than abandon his career.

Afod made the remarks during an interview with YouTube content creator Kasnasty Sugar, where he discussed the challenges of balancing the demands of the entertainment industry with family life.

The actor maintained that people who are genuinely passionate about their creative professions often place their work above personal relationships.

“What we actors love most is our work, not our wife. We love the job we do more than anything else. If you’re a creative person, you will love art more than any other thing,” he said.

He further argued that partners of actors sometimes struggle to accept the demands of the profession because they see the work as competition for their attention.

“It’s only when you don’t love acting that you will consider leaving it for your wife or husband. But if you truly love the job, you will prefer to let go of anybody for it,” Afod added.

The filmmaker also disclosed that his dedication to acting has affected the time he spends with his children, claiming that he sometimes goes as long as six months without speaking to them.

“Nobody can hinder me. I was born for this, and I will die for it,” he declared.

Afod revealed that he had previously turned down an opportunity to relocate abroad because he did not want to leave the profession he had built his life around.

His comments come amid public attention surrounding his separation from his wife, Desola Afod, with whom he has four sons.

The actor recently addressed the marital crisis in another interview with Kasnasty Sugar, where he described the pressures of his profession and discussed issues including jealousy and suspicion in relationships.

However, Afod’s latest comments have renewed conversations about the demands of careers in the entertainment industry and the challenges of maintaining family relationships while pursuing professional ambitions.
